MavenWire Hosting attains SAS70 Type II Compliance

MavenWire Hosting recently passed a SAS70 Type II audit, conducted by IS Partners LLC, a division of Interactive Solutions LLC. This audit ensures that MavenWire’s processes and controls conform to widely-recognized industry standards, which cover effective change management, physical and logical security, data protection and recovery capabilities, and datacenter security and disaster readiness.

What is SAS70 Type II?

SAS70, short for ‘Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70’, is a widely-recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) used to evaluate service organizations such as MavenWire Hosting. A successful SAS 70 Type II audit demonstrates that an organization has had an in-depth examination performed to evaluate its control objectives and activities. Increasing corporate governance, such as the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act of 2002 has also increased the importance of SAS 70 audits in the overall process of reporting on the effectiveness of internal controls as they relate to financial reporting.

A SAS70 Type II audit is conducted by an independent accounting and auditing firm, and the resulting report, including the independent auditor’s opinion, is provided to the service organization at the audit’s conclusion. It should be noted that a SAS 70 Type II audit is not a “checklist”-type audit, but instead examines the controls in place, whether those controls adequately confirm to accepted practices and standards, and how effectively the organization adheres to those controls.

More information on SAS70 can be found at http://SAS70.com.
